Call for Entries: Gawad Panitikang Pangkalusugan Storywriting Contest

Just doing this for an old classmate of mine. While I am in no way associated with any fraternities/sororities, I'm posting it here anyway hoping anyone of my literary adept friends would join.

Are you an aspiring writer? Help build a safer and healthier nation for a chance to win Php 25,000 in cash and a publishing deal for your very own children's storybook.

Now on its second year, The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority of the UP College of Medicine presents:

Gawad Panitikang Pangkalusugan: a nationwide children's storybook writing competition, open to all Philippine residents, aged 18 years old and above.

With this year's theme, Luksong Tinik: Kwentong Kaligtasan para sa Kabataan, it challenges everyone to create stories for kids aged 5 to 10 years old, that can both entertain and teach them skills and knowledge to jump over dangers and into safety.

Deadline of entries is on May 15, 2012.

Let us not be afraid of taking the leap! Join Gawad Panitikang Pangkalusugan today! Literate Philippines. Safe and Healthy Philippines.

Like Gawad Panitikang Pangkalusugan on Facebook, visit www.gawadpanitikan.com, or email gawadpanitikan2@gmail.com for more details.

There. I won't be joining this knowing my writing skills compared to Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj would make them look like literary geniuses. Since it's pro-health and pro-children (whatever that means) I'm posting it here to make it known. Sorry if this is a bit late. Didn't notice it's been sitting in my 'Drafts' folder for almost a week now. Thanks to Tin Hernandez for the info!

Rotators gonna rotate

It's been fun drugging and zapping patients to sanity. Or rather they may just spiral into something worse than insanity after we zap them with as much electric current as your standard home outlet into their heads to make them go into seizure. I've been rotating in Psychiatry for the past weeks and part of the rotation required us to go on duty in a mental institution. It's a different experience from the usual hospital setting. Even the treatment regimen is different from what you would usually see in a typical tertiary hospital. People get drugged, sedated, or they could be subjected to ECT.

Twitter acquired Posterous

It seems I was late in finding out that the microblogging giant, Twitter, has acquired Posterous, the host and service provider for this blog. It isn't really big news to most people but it kinda got me worried. I have big plans for this blog and I've been working for months on the back end of the blog for my own purposes. I have to admit, I've grown to love Posterous and it would really suck if it would go.

The acquisition might mean that Posterous might have to close down. They haven't really made any formal annoucement but they simply said that the users will be given 'ample time' to move their content to another service. That pretty much means I might really have to look for a domain and start using Wordpress platform which I have abandoned years ago.

It would really suck to see Posterous go.
